Praise doesn’t come much higher than ‘Best New Hotel in the World’, but at BECK we’re not surprised that Rosewood has received accolades such as this. As soon as you step into the hotel you are immersed in elegance and luxury. Every aspect of the materials and finishes has been meticulously designed and crafted.
Opened in January 2014, Rosewood offers ‘ultra-luxury’ accommodation across 262 bedrooms and 44 suites. Housed in a grand Edwardian building – the original headquarters of the Pearl Assurance Company, built in 1914 – it combines English design heritage with contemporary sophistication, reflecting its proximity to the heart of one of the world’s most vibrant cities.
In collaboration with EPR Architects, tonychi and associates and Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, BECK undertook the role of main contractor and fit out specialist. We were responsible for the fit out of the public areas, guestrooms and suites, which we carried out under two separate phased contracts
There are head-turning details everywhere, such as 8,000 pieces of rose bronze set around a steel frame to create the golden glow entrance screen, horsehair wall panels in the suites and alpaca tiles in the lift lobby. BECK managed a number of specialist craftspeople against challenging deadlines to create these and many more diverse elements of the design scheme. We worked closely with the design team to realise their vision, sourcing many varied and some unique finishes from Italy, Spain, Argentina and America.
Moreover, through careful phasing, we achieved all this whilst allowing the existing hotel to remain open – indeed it was a fundamental requirement that all guests still experienced a 5-star stay, whilst refurbishment works progressed. And the results? Well, the awards speak for themselves . . .
